For the past several months, I’ve been writing about each of our Jiu Jitsu classes here at Metagame.
After every class, I’d sit down and write about what we worked on, the ideas behind it, the little details I noticed, and the things I hoped our students would take away from the session. It became a pretty good record of what we were doing on the mats.
But I’ve decided to change things a little.
Instead of writing a separate post for every class, I’m moving to a weekly edition of The Sunday Paper — our new home for all of that Jiu Jitsu, just in a different format.
The information isn’t going away. If anything, there will be more of it.
The Sunday Paper will collect the lessons, ideas, observations, stories, and other bits of Jiu Jitsu from the week and put them together into one place. Think of it as a little weekly newspaper for the club.
And there’s another reason I wanted to do it this way.
I want to make the anti-podcast.
We live in a world where everyone has a microphone.
Everyone has a camera. Everyone has a platform. Everyone has something to say, and apparently everything needs to be recorded, uploaded, streamed, clipped, liked, shared, and consumed immediately.
I thought it might be nice to do the opposite.
Something quiet.
Something you don’t have to listen to.
Something that doesn’t require headphones or a screen or another person talking at you.
Something you can pick up on a Sunday morning with a cup of coffee and spend ten minutes reading.
A little bit of Jiu Jitsu.
A little bit of club life.
Maybe a story, an idea, a technique, something interesting I found during the week, or something I’ve been thinking about on the mats.
The newspaper is deliberately old-fashioned.
It is meant to feel a little like something that belongs on the kitchen table rather than in your podcast queue.
So on Sunday morning, pour yourself a coffee, sit down for a few minutes, and catch up on what’s been happening at The Superstition Club.
No microphone required.
Welcome to The Sunday Paper.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy putting it together. The first edition will be emailed to everyone Sunday morning!
