This year has been intentionally slow for me. After 5 years of intense traveling I needed to take a step back to make home and health my priority. I’m still waiting on a hip replacement, without it travel becomes no fun at all. So my focus has been on my students at Metagame. I realized how much I enjoyed working with the same students and watching them progress through my curriculum. The last 5 years have been so filled with seminars, which I love, but seminars don’t offer the same connection you get when you are with the same students day by day. It’s been very rewarding and something I’m looking forward to sticking to. I do, however, want to spend a few weekends away per year to teach and travel. It’s something I still love doing and don’t want to completely get away from. I just need to be more selective as opposed to saying yes to everything.

February 4th through 7th I’ll be taking flight to Costa Rica for a truly one of a kind experience. I’ve been invited out by Vector BJJ for their first run of 4 day retreats. This camp will be something very different from what we are all used to. It’s 4 days at a brand new 5 star facility on the beach in Playa Flamingo. And the strangest part, I’m the only coach! This is super exciting for me since I’ll have 4 days and 8 sessions to help my students develop their guard game. I’ve done 2 days seminars in the past, but having 4 days, 8 sessions, plus video review, and sparring is something completely new.

On top of it all, the location is absolutely stunning. We’ll have access to the full gym, weight lifting equipment, massage therapists, and so much more. It’s kind of unreal. I’ve been to countless camps, but really nothing like this. This really does feel luxurious. And it feels like the training is absolutely the priority. Which may be difficult when we are right near the beach.

Lea and I will pair the trip with a trip to Honduras for snorkeling, jungles and as many wildlife interactions as we can squeeze in. It’ll be my first time to Honduras and my first time to Costa Rica, as well as Lea’s first time to Central America. We discovered a new love for snorkeling while in Croatia, and for this trip we are already scouting out whale sharks, sea turtles, reef sharks and so much more. All of this before heading to playa flamingo and starting the camp.

All in all its going to be an unforgettable 10-14 day trip for us. And I can’t thank Vector enough for reaching out to me to join an absolute all star cast of instructors to kick off their seminar series.
